Legendary Great Britain Scrum-Half Andy Gregory has been awarded a full 12-month Testimonial from March 2014 by the RFL, in recognition for his outstanding achievements and services to Rugby League, 20 years after hanging up his boots.

Andy will be touring the UK, with his first major appearance at the Palace Hotel, Manchester, on June 7. A galaxy of high-profile sporting personalities from the world of Rugby League & Union, Football, Cricket, Snooker and Darts, will be making special appearances during the year, in support of Gregory – one of Rugby League’s all-time greats.

Nine-times undefeated at Wembley and even getting a notable mention in Sir Alex Ferguson’s Autobiography, Andy Gregory, twice winner of the Lance Todd Trophy, was once voted best Scrum-Half in the World and won Best Scrum-Half in England Award for six-consecutive years. Plus he’s coached at every level of the game, from grass roots to Great Britain and will always be remembered for taking Salford into the Super League.

His story is breath-taking; rising to fame as a teenager, with a personal life-story every inch as interesting as George Best and Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins combined, yet his talent on the pitch was so immense that even today he still has a loyal fan-base across the UK and Australia.

Andy has been a keen, yet secret philanthropist for more than 30-years so it’s no surprise that significant proceeds from his Testimonial Year are being donated to charities by his Testimonial Committee

When asked about his Testimonial Year Andy said, “There’s a huge number of major sports personalities who have agreed to take part in the Testimonial and along with those involved I want to also thank the Rugby Football League for giving me this great honour.” He added, “Playing rugby and coaching for a number of great clubs and Great Britain was a privilege and I’d like to give something back in return to say thank you, both to the fans and also to charity.”
